She explained to me this may be the new big thing which go viral in our world, making some people rich. Alas, I have enough experience to know domain name extensions are just domain name extensions. Around 1997 or so, WS may have been somewhat hot, now it’s boring.

The pitch is: “WS is a world accessible top level domain which works just like COM and NET. Anyone, anywhere, can register a WS domain and establish a personal internet address for life. WS’s easy to remember; WS is WebSite! Register a WS domain today, and see why we’re ranked with the upper 50 of the five hundred growing companies.”

The reality is, nearly the same assertions might be made if one chose one of (at least 100) possible domain name extensions. In the past, and also now, COM is the most popular; and Net, Org, Info, Gov, also are popular.

The marketing push of WS domain names these days comes mostly from a multi-level-marketing business. When you’re an excellent sales expert with lots of contacts and charisma, you could make money selling WS domains. Most people will find it difficult to sell such a generic service as being something different, although it is not.
